The end of the web as we know it!

I was thinking this week after visiting some future clients, what will the web look like in 5 years. When I first started, all my clients wanted was a website that would look loud, proud and reflect their brand!. Now all people seem to want is

Can you get me to the top of google when people type ‘mobile phone’ !!!

Then we have the usual discussion on marketing and SEO.  The point I’m trying to make is that these clients don’t really care what their website looks like. ( I have actual quotes on this !)

So my question is in 5 years time will search engines (ok google!) just be a directory of phone numbers based on the users search criteria and is design slowly becoming less important? I think NOT by the way!

I’m not saying that it’s not important to be found but at what cost to the design of the site.

Web Innovation and creativity is the key to success, lets make the web fun again and not just an electronic directory of search words!

I’m working on a new website at present which is breaking all the rules, I’ll keep you posted!
